Being on Mayday, the Rochester Sweeps Festival is a celebration of the coming of spring, and was also the traditional holiday for chimney sweeps or Climbing Boys as they were officially known. Morris sides from all over the country come to dance along the High Street and in the parade, and on the Monday the Jack In The Green is awakened at sun-rise on Blue Bell Hill.
