Winter Solstice at Avebury Henge

December 2023

Incorporating the largest stone circle in Britain - which was originally made up of over 100 stones - Avebury henge is one of the greatest remaining marvels of the Neolithic period. The enormous bank and ditch was built and constantly altered throughout the years 2850 BC and 2200 BC, and encircles part of Avebury village. The henge, stones and surrounding landscape was made into a World Heritage Site in 1986, alongside the better-known Stonehenge.
