One of the main May Day celebrations in the UK, Hastings Jack In The Green is a four day event attracting thousands of people from all over the country. It hosts a weird and wonderful parade consisting of unique folkloric characters, giants, Morris dancers and of course Jack and his Bogeymen. Jack is awakened at sunrise on West Hill and then slain at around 4pm to release the spirit of summer - his leaves thought to increase fertility.
