Montol Festival

December 2022

Montol Festival is an annual midwinter celebration held in Penzance on Winter Solstice. The name derives from an old Cornish word meaning the turning point of the year. There is a procession made up of Guise Dancers, a Lord Of Misrule, mummers, Penglaz the Hobby Horse and a variety of musicians and dancers. Although a fairly new event it incorporates many traditions and customs from Cornish heritage, some of which are suitably sinister and mysterious, befitting the dark days before Christmas.
